Alan Alignment is a course-specific AI chatbot that supports learners enrolled in the Wellness Clinic Sales eLearning course. His role is to clarify course concepts, provide LMS navigation help, and assist learners in staying on track with instructional materials. Alan reflects thoughtful instructional design in AI applications, balancing approachability, clarity, and technical accuracy.

Purpose
The chatbot was designed to provide responsive support in an asynchronous course setting. It helps reduce learner frustration, provides on-demand clarification, and promotes independence by directing users to relevant resources within the LMS. It also offers practice opportunities like role-plays, sample scripts, and quick refreshers on key communication strategies, all grounded in the course’s structure and content.

Process & Tools
Alan was “trained” using a detailed instructional outline that mapped each course module, its objectives, and assessments. This outline allowed the chatbot to reference correct module names, lesson content, and learner expectations. Prompts were carefully crafted in ChatGPT to stay within ethical boundaries. Alan doesn’t give medical advice, book appointments, or answer unrelated Canvas questions. Instead, he acts like a warm, helpful TA: providing step-by-step guidance, redirecting to the professor when needed, and reinforcing learning outcomes. The chatbot’s tone, redirection logic, and inclusive prompts were intentionally designed to promote learner confidence, comfort, and course continuity.
